Custodian & Maintenance Technician

Location: Servant’s House
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Job Description & Scope:

Under general supervision, perform a wide variety of custodial and maintenance duties in order to provide a clean, orderly and safe environment for our Servant’s House shelter.

This position performs custodial and maintenance duties in and around our building; troubleshoots, performs minor repairs and responds to emergency calls for service; works closely with employees to meet the custodial needs of the area; and resolves problems to ensure efficient and safe operations.

To do well in this role you should have previous experience in maintenance, be highly skilled with various hand and power tools, and be able to read blueprints and/or repair manuals.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducting routine inspections of premises and equipment.
  • Performing basic repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, buffing, and vacuuming.
  • Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
  • Steam-clean and/or shampoo furniture.
  • Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.
  • Clean and restore building interiors damaged by normal wear & tear (i.e. painting, patching holes, etc.)
  • Gather and empty trash.
  • Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs and issues that may arise.
  • Overseeing contractors when professional repairs are necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as directed by the assigned recreation department supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Proven maintenance experience.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Experience performing routine maintenance.
  • Strong organizational and follow up skills.
  • Professional presentation and attitude.
  • Ability to maintain focus while working individually.
  • Strong time management skills.

Special Requirements:

  • Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy items (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing low to high heights, and walking.
  • Must be able to work safely in an environment containing chemicals, cleaning materials, dust and noise.
  • Must know how to paint interior rooms in a timely and efficient manner. Required to work under inclement weather conditions and in high participant traffic areas.
