This November, We’re Baking a Difference
What does a bunch of crumble cakes have to do with ending homelessness? More than you might think.
At Turning Point Community Services, we know that when a mother and her children are experiencing homelessness, the challenges go far beyond finding a place to sleep. There are meals to put on the table. Children to get ready for school. Jobs to find. Budgets to manage. Appointments to keep. And sometimes, there is simply the need to feel safe enough to begin moving forward.
That is why this November, we are bringing our community together for Baking a Difference, our first-ever virtual baking event. You can participate from your own kitchen, gather your family or friends, invite your neighbors, or simply bake along on your own.
A Mother’s Journey Forward
One of the most meaningful parts of our work is watching a mother move from surviving to believing in what is possible again.
Ms. Curry is a hard working mother of three who arrived at TPCS having done something incredibly brave. She advocated for herself, picked up the phone, and made the call to change her circumstances. From day one, she was a burst of sunshine in our shelter, and her energy was absolutely unmatched. She came in with a goal and never wavered!
Ms. Curry showed up for every opportunity available, from job readiness workshops and parenting classes to financial literacy sessions with Chase Bank. She utilized our housing assistance resources, leaned into mental health support, and took full advantage of the life skills programming offered to her. Her dedication paid off! Ms. Curry has officially moved to Upstate New York and is stepping boldly into her next chapter. She left beaming with pride and so did we.
Her story is a reminder that stability doesn’t happen overnight. It happens one step at a time, with the right support, encouragement, resources, and time.
Your participation in Baking a Difference will help support that journey for families at TPCS through our Charity Care Fund, which provides additional support when a family’s government funding ends before they are ready to move forward. Sometimes, a family just needs a little more time. And that extra time can make all the difference.
